gfslicer v1.4.5 beta
gfslicer is a software which helps you to split files which
are large into smaller files of arbitrary size of your choice and
deslice them back to their original form. It is mainly aimed to help
carry files on floppies and any sort of removable storage media.
Features:
- Split files from any folder in your HDD to any other folder.
- A perfect check mechanism to avoid errors.
- It checks availability of file pieces while deslicing.
- Stores all necessary information for deslicing in the sliced files
providing the user an easy deslice operation.
- File can be sliced in to a maximum of 100 pieces.
- Tar option helps in archiving your files.
- Untar option to do the reverse.
- Enhanced preferences to help user make gfslicer customised to him.
- Log file facility to cross-check what happened.
- Drag & Drop any file and gfslicer will catch it.
I think I have checked it in all possible ways. Please
inform me if you find any bug in the software. I am happy to have
your feedback of any sort (technical feedbacks preferred).
The option part is not yet completed but expect it soon to
be. When you carry files in floppy disks it is advisable to split the
file into 1.25 MB file pieces for safety from the unreliable floppies.
HOW TO INSTALL:
If you don't have X running untar the file using
tar xvfz <file name>
set present working directory as gfslicer and then type "make" to
compile the file.
If you have X running a double click is enough to open the file.
Copy the folder gfslicer to the location you need. Open a console
window and set the present working directory as gfslicer and then type
"make" to compile it.
Just a "make" is enough to compile the whole software and to
have it with you. "make" will compile the software and place the
executable at the src/ folder. Copy it to usr/bin/ or have it there.
If you copy it to usr/bin/ don't forget to copy the .xpm files there.
