Strong chess program
Crafty is one of the strongest chess programs in the world that has its source freely available. It includes state-of-the-art algorithms, an extensive opening book, the ability to use endgame tablebases on PA-RISC only (a minimal set of them is supplied) and can interface with xboard to provide a GUI if required.
